Essential Traveller Information for Egypt

Planning a trip to Egypt is an exciting adventure! To ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable journey, we’ve compiled this essential information for all our travellers.

1. Passport and Visas

• Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry into Egypt.
• Visa: Most nationalities (USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia) can obtain a 30-day tourist visa upon arrival at Egyptian airports for $25 USD in cash. You can also apply for an e-visa online at least one week before travel.

2. Arrival and Transfers

• Meet & Greet: Our representative will meet you at the airport (look for the Egypt Nile Travel sign) to assist with visa formalities and luggage before transferring you to your hotel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle.
• Flight Details: Please ensure you provide us with your full flight details (airline, flight number, and arrival time) at least 7 days before your trip.

3. Health and Safety

• Vaccinations: No specific vaccinations are legally required for entry from most countries, but we recommend being up-to-date on standard boosters.
• Water: Always drink bottled water. It is widely available and very affordable. Avoid tap water for drinking or brushing teeth if you have a sensitive stomach.
• Insurance: We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip cancellations.

4. Currency and Tipping

• Currency: The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). While cards are accepted in hotels and large shops, cash is essential for markets, small cafes, and tipping.
• Tipping (Baksheesh): Tipping is a standard part of Egyptian culture. Small amounts for porters, drivers, and site attendants are appreciated. For your main tour guides and drivers, we can provide a tipping guideline based on your itinerary.

5. What to Wear

• Modesty: Egypt is a conservative country. While tourist areas are relaxed, please dress modestly when visiting mosques or local villages (shoulders and knees covered).
• Comfort: Wear breathable fabrics (cotton/linen) and comfortable walking shoes. A hat and sunglasses are essential for protection against the desert sun.

6. Electricity

• Egypt uses 220V and the plug types are C and F (two round pins). We recommend bringing a universal travel adapter.
