Your tour includes the catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, one of the enchanting wonders. These huge Egyptian tombs and royal burial places bear Ptolemaic and Roman cultural influences. The catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa are indeed one of the largest Roman burial sites in Alexandria and in Egypt. From there, it began as the tomb of a wealthy family but continued being a public cemetery. The catacombs contain over 300 tombs.
From the catacombs to Pompey’s Pillar. Many ancient historians failed to provide details about the actual "Pompey's Pillar" but rather obscured their accounts by talking about the nearby buildings that no longer exist. The hill on which the pillar stands was dotted with temples and houses well before the Roman period. It was the site of the Citadel of Rhakotis. Upon the mountain was established a temple dedicated to Osiris-Serapis.
Then head on to the Citadel of Qaitbay. The Citadel of Qaitbay in Alexandria is among the most significant fortifications in Egypt. It was built by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay to protect Egypt against the Ottomans/Turks.
